About Denise

My name is Denise Franklin and I live in Wichita, Kansas. Together with my wonderful husband, we have 3 boys, 3 daughters-in-laws, and 3 grandchildren! Family is at the top of my priority list, and I believe with all my heart God has blessed me with what is most important in life; a family to love and devote my time and energy to! They are my pride and my joy!

After I delivered my first son, I developed a passion to be a part of one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life…BIRTH!  I followed that dream by working at a Pregnancy Center, which enabled me to come alongside teenage Moms to be their spiritual mentor, and birth coach because they had chosen LIFE!  Not long after that, my dream continued to be fulfilled as I became certified as a Doula; a labor and delivery coach, through DONA International.

As a Doula, I believe I compliment a Doctor or a Nurse’s role. I provide information, physical assistance, and emotional support to the Mom. I love to teach Husbands to be involved in the labor process, and how to be a vital part in comforting her during her contractions.  I have a strong passion to support a woman’s birth experience however that looks like to her, and her partner. I will come alongside her, fully supporting her birth plan.  I will be an advocate, never leaving her side until her sweet bundle of joy has arrived! My goal is to ensure the mother feels safe and confident before, during, and after delivery. As the name Doula means in Ancient Greek; I am your servant!

In February 2017, I had the privilege of being a part of a Medical Mission trip to Kenya, in which I worked with a team of Doctors and Nurses in the Lodwar District Hospital, Turkana, Kenya.
I was honored to assist 13 women in one week. Two of which named their baby after me. What a surprise! This was one of the most rewarding aspects of the trip — helping these women labor and deliver their babies. Most of them labored alone and were very grateful for someone to hold their hand, help them breathe through contractions, and use other comfort measures to help them through their unmedicated birth.
I went there to serve these women, but they were the ones who taught me so much.  Kenyan women are strong and will forever be my heroes!
